Indonesia would increase production of motorcycle next year to 7.5 to 7.8 million units from 7.3 to 7.5 million units targeted this year, the association said here on Tuesday, indicating producers' confidence over the purchasing power in the country.

Sigit Kumala, head of commercial department of Indonesian Motorcycle Association (AISI) said that the producers made the target based on its monitoring on inflation and economic growth as well as global commodity prices.

"The rise of global commodities prices, such as rubber and palm oil, is going to influence on production and prices of motorcycle," he said at the AISI office.

"For next year, we forecast the production is going to be 7.5 to 7.8 million units," said Sigit.

He said that the producers would market most of their products to domestic market and only one percent of the total production was exported.

Indonesian Finance Minister Chatib Basri has said that the impact of the government's subsidized-fuel price hike policy, carried out on June 22, on inflation was going to be temporary.

Indonesia has a population of more than 238 million people with a growing middle class and emerging wealth.
