Canada's Bombardier Aerospace said on Tuesday at the ongoing Dubai Airshow that Iraqi Airways, the national carrier of Iraq, intends to buy five CS300 mainline jetliners.
The world's only producer of planes and trains added that the firm order would be valued at approximately 387 million U.S. dollars and could increase to 1.26 billion dollars if another 11 CS300 aircraft options are converted to orders.
Iraqi Airways which started to modernize its fleet in 2008 already operates six CRJ900 NextGen regional jets. "Over the last few years, Iraqi Airways has successfully utilized its CRJ900 NextGen aircraft to open routes and expand into new markets," said captain Saad Al-Khafaji, the chief executive officer and director general at Iraqi Airways at a joint media briefing on the third day of the Dubai Airshow.
A Bombardier Aerospace facility in Belfast, Northern Ireland, will be responsible for the design, development and manufacture of the aircraft. The 13th edition of the biennial Dubai Airshow will run through Thursday.
