Insurer Achmea will cut a total of4,000 jobs as part of reorganization in the next three years, theDutch company announced Wednesday.
The insurance company made the adjustment after it decided toexpand investment in online service as "the society is changingever more rapidly, which puts current working methods underpressure," said Achmea company.
"Our 8 million customers are doing more and more online and alsowant to arrange their insurance in that way,"said Willem van Duin,chairman of Achmea's Executive Board, in a statement.
"In doing so we can be sure of preserving what we are in thefuture: a cooperative insurer with the strongest of brands thatcommunicate with their customers in a modern way."
Achmea has 19,000 employees worldwide, with most of them in theNetherlands. In 2009, the Dutch insurer had already dropped 2,500jobs.
Achmea posted a net result of 123 million euros (167 millionU.S. dollars) in the first half of 2013, down 41 percent comparedto a 210 million euros net result in the first half of 2012.
