Construction of iron ore smelter in Mozambican province to start in 2015
The construction of an iron ore smelter is to kick off next year in the northwestern Mozambican province of Tete, where 750 million tonnes of iron ore has been confirmed after prospection.
The Mozambican company Capitol Resources, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Australian Baobab Resources, said Tuesday the project will involve a billion U.S. dollars, and the smelter will start operation the following year.
According to the state news agency AIM, production will last 25 years, and the smelter will have the capacity of churning out a million tons of iron out of the production of iron ore.
