The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has become the biggest importer of Vietnamese phone sets and accessories, with a growth of over 100 percent year-on-year since 2010, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Vietnamese cellphones sold to the UAE in particular reached 3 billion dollars in 2013, compared with 71 million U.S. dollars in 2010.
In the first two months of 2014, the UAE spent nearly 520 million dollars to import Vietnamese phones, accounting for over 81 percent of its import from Vietnam, the General Department of Vietnam Customs reported on Friday.
The export value to the UAE accounted for more than 15 percent of total Vietnamese phone export of 3.4 billion dollars in the first two months of this year.
Other main products that the UAE imports from Vietnam are computers, rice, garments and textiles.
