LG Electronics, the world's No. 3 smartphone maker, said on Thursday that its second-quarter earnings beat market expectations on brisk sales of its flagship smartphones.
The tech giant's operating profit jumped 26.5 percent from a year earlier to 606.2 billion won (590 million US dollars) in the second quarter. From three months ago, the profit expanded 20. 3 percent.
The figure beat a market consensus of some 550 billion won as the Mobile Communication (MC) division, which makes smartphones, turned into black with an operating profit of 85.9 billion won.
The phone-making unit recorded operating deficits in the past three quarters to the first quarter due to a burden from higher marketing costs.
Sales grew 0.9 percent from a year earlier to 15.37 trillion won in the second quarter. From three months before, the revenue increased 7.7 percent.
