Growth of Serbian gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of this year was 4.4 percent compared to the same period last year, the country's Statistical Office stated in a press release on Tuesday.
Commenting on the brief press release, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said the planned growth in the second quarter was only 3.6 and reminded that the GDP growth in the first quarter was 4.6-4.7 percent, while the average growth during the first half of the year is 4.5 percent.
Brnabic said the good economic results in the first six months enable the country to increase pensions and salaries in public sector somewhat earlier, announcing that the government will propose such measures to the parliament in October or November.
The Statistical Office also published data of the second quarter for employment and income of citizens, pointing out that employment increased by 3.2 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to the office, 2.1 million of Serbian citizens were registered as employed, mostly in the manufacturing industry and trade as well as transport and construction.
