Botswana's inflation rate in September registered a drop of 0.1 of a percentage point on the August 2018 rate of 3.0 percent, the country's statistical agency announced Monday.

Latest figures released by Statistics Botswana (SB) have indicated that the annual inflation rate in Sept. stood at 2.9 percent.

According to SB, the inflation rates for regions between Aug. 2018 and Sept. 2018 showed that cities and towns declined to 3.6 percent from 3.8 percent, urban villages went up to 2.7 percent from 2.6 percent and rural villages remained unchanged at 2.0 percent over the two months.

"The group indices were generally moving at a steady pace between August 2018 and September 2018, recording changes of less than 1.0 percent," SB said.

SB stated that the food and non-alcoholic beverages group index plunged from 102.1 to 101.8, recording a drop of 0.3 percent over the 2 months.

The drop was mainly due to the decrease in the section indices of vegetables, bread and cereals by 0.8 and 0.7 percent respectively, said SB.

The all-tradeables index moved from 105.3 in August to 105.2 in September.
