The annual consumer price index (CPI) in Israel rose 0.8 percent in 2018, below the government's target of 1-3 percent, said the state's Central Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.

Israel's CPI fell by 0.3 percent in December last year, contrary to previous prediction, causing annual inflation rate to remain below the target, the bureau said.

This is the fifth consecutive year that the inflation rate in Israel has been below the government's target.

The last time when Israel's annual inflation rate met the target set by the government was at the end of 2013, when a rate of 1.8 percent was recorded.

In the following years of 2014, 2015 and 2016, negative inflation rates were recorded in the Israeli economy. In 2017, the Israeli inflation rate was 0.4 percent.
