Showtime's hit shows "Homeland" and "Masters of Sex" will return in 2014 with 12 hourlong episodes.

This will be a fourth season for the former and a second season for the latter, Showtime President David Nevins was quoted by U.S. media on Tuesday as saying.

"Homeland" has grown its audience in each of its three seasons," Nevins said. “The critical and audience reaction to 'Masters of Sex' since its launch has been incredibly gratifying.”

A survey shows that "Homeland" is Showtime's No. 1 series with 6.5 million weekly viewers in season three, up 26 percent from season two.

"Homeland" won a Peabody Award, which recognizes excellence in radio or television regardless of a program's popular success.

"Masters of Sex" currently averages 5.4 million weekly viewers, 33 percent more than "Homeland" had during the same time period of its first season.

"Masters of Sex" tells story of the careers and love lives of famed sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson.

Showtime occasionally abbreviated as "SHO" is an American premium cable and satellite television network.
