The third Broadway Week started here Monday with a special offer to theatergoers of two-for-one tickets -- purchasing two tickets for the price of one -- for 19 most popular Broadway shows.

"Nothing says New York City like Broadway," said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company, New York City's official marketing, tourism and partnership organization. "Through NYC & Company's Broadway Week's two-for-one ticket promotion, we are giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy some of the best theater in the world at an affordable price," He added.

According to Charlotte Martin, executive director of The Broadway League, Broadway contributes more than 11 billion U.S. dollars to the economy of New York City besides ticket sales and supports 86,000 local jobs a year.

"NYC & Company's innovative two-for-one programs benefit the city, the industry and, of course, the consumers," said Charlotte. "Broadway Week has become a much-anticipated tradition for everyone."

During the semiannual event, which will last till Sept. 15, audiences will watch a list of shows, including the award-winning Once, Forever Tango, much-anticipated Big Fish, and Romeo and Juliet.
