The Vietnamese version of the book Xi Jinping: The Governance of China was launched in Hanoi on Wednesday on the eve of the Chinese leader's state visit to Vietnam.

Nguyen The Ky, deputy head of the Vietnamese Communist Party Central Committee's Propaganda Department, said launching the Vietnamese version of the book immediately before Xi's visit is significant.

"The book introduces many of Xi's ideas on governance, the new Chinese leadership, and tells of the current situation in China.

"It will not only enhance scholarly exchanges between the two countries, but also help ordinary Vietnamese readers gain a better understanding of China's development. There will be many experiences that we can borrow from China," Nguyen said at the launch ceremony.

He suggested Vietnamese news agencies and media organizations should promote Xi's book widely in the country.

The work has 18 chapters comprising 79 articles highlighting Xi's speeches, answers to questions, conversations and instructions from Nov 15, 2012, to June 13 last year. It also includes 45 photos of the president.

Before the launch in Hanoi, the book had been printed in several languages, including Chinese, English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Japanese and Russian. About 5.2 million copies have been sold worldwide.

The Vietnamese version is the outcome of cooperation between leading publishers from the two countries-the Foreign Languages Press in China and the National Political Publishing House in Vietnam.

Twelve experts-three from Vietnam and nine from China-who are familiar with the social developments, culture and languages of both countries, have worked closely on translating the book into Vietnamese since May.

Tuo Zhen, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said launching the Vietnamese version reflects the good relationship the two countries enjoy.

"China and Vietnam are linked by mountains and rivers. Our cultures are similar to each other. We are good neighbors and both socialist countries. Our friendship, established by Chairman Mao Zedong and Chairman Ho Chi Minh-the older leadership generation from both countries-is a treasure shared by both peoples," Tuo said.

Tuo said the book includes a speech by Xi, in which he said cultural exchanges and mutual learning play a major role in the development of human civilization, and books are the "carriers of knowledge and wisdom".

"The Vietnamese version will be a new bridge linking the two countries and a new engine to boost the two peoples' friendship," he added.
