National Gallery Singapore on Thursday announced a first-ever collaboration named "Art through Our Eyes" with five award-winning ASEAN film directors to celebrate Southeast Asian art.
The directors will create short films inspired by the National Gallery Singapore's Southeast Asian art collection to give audiences unique and dramatized interpretations of the exhibits, as well as deepen their appreciation of modern art from this region.
Each of the five directors chose a masterpiece from the 19th and 20th century as inspiration for their short films. These films will be separately produced in the directors' home countries, namely Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, as well as Singapore.
Director of National Gallery Singapore Eugene Tan said the collaboration is part of the gallery's efforts to present not only unique perspectives about Singapore and Southeast Asian art but also to make it accessible globally to diverse audiences.
The film collaboration is supported by Singapore Film Commission in line with efforts to nurture a vibrant film sector. These short films will be showcased together later this year. Enditem
