Poland holds military parade to celebrate Army Day

Poland held a large-scale military parade in the capital of Warsaw on Monday to celebrated the Polish Army Day, with the participation of President Andrzej Duda and chief of the armed forces.

At 10 a.m. local time, a ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was held, accompanied with a ceremony of unveiling a commemorative plaque honoring Polish soldiers. Wreaths were placed in front of Marshal Jozef Pilsudski's monument.

Duda awarded eight army officers with general ranks.

The main ceremony was held at noon in Aleje Ujazdowskie at Belvedere. The president delivered a speech, after which the military parade began, with the participation of nearly 1,500 soldiers, more than 150 military vehicles as well as planes and helicopters.

Besides the president's attendance, Prime Minister Beata Szydlo and Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz were present as well.

"Today Poland has soldiers we are all proud of... soldiers who gained their experience in most difficult places at war, in places where they help others, mutually support our allies. We are a member of community, an important element of international security solidarity,"Duda said.

Similar events - equipment exhibition and parades, soldier picnics and historical reconstruction, were also held in others cities, such as Bialystok, Gdynia, and Wroclaw.
