Czech government spokesperson Martin Ayrer said on Wednesday on Twitter that the country's list of addictive substances would be updated and expanded with 63 new items.

Such decision was based on the Explanatory Memorandum (EM) of the State Institute for Drug Control (SUKL) and National Drug Headquarters, Ayrer said.

The move came after a suspicious increase in sales of weight loss medicines (namely Adipex Retard) within the country's borders.

As stated in the EM, the anti-obesity medication requires doctor's prescription as it contains a certain addictive ingredient, phentermine. There has been a large number of prescriptions issued and reported lost or forged in different regions of the Czech Republic. The report concludes that such sudden activity stands for illicit drug production, illegal online trade and further exports to the European Union markets.

Czech government is now preparing a new set of measures on the supply and distribution of medicines in the country aimed to protect the population against drug addiction and stop the illegal exports to the European markets.
