Czech President Zeman to seek reelection

Czech President Milos Zeman said to his supporters on Thursday night that he will seek reelection in early next year.

Zeman made the announcement during an event marking the fourth anniversary of his inauguration at Prague Castle. He will officially announce his decision at a press conference on Friday.

72-year-old Zeman was the first direct elected Czech president in the general election in January 2013 and he assumed the post in early March of the same year. He said his aides recommended him to seek reelection recently.

Zeman' presidency has been accompanied by clashes with his opponents who criticize some of his statements and opinions, the choice of aides.

While he enjoys a high trust of people according to public opinion polls. It is not yet clear who will be running against Zeman in the presidential election.

Czech businessman and lyricist Michal Horacek, businessman Igor Sladek and doctor and activist Marek Hilser have officially announced their interest in seeking the post.
