Almost nine out of 10 South Koreans gave a positive outlook for the new government under President Moon Jae-in, a survey showed Friday.

According to the Gallup Korea poll, 87 percent forecast that President Moon will do well in his management of state affairs during his five-year presidency.

Seven percent showed a negative outlook, while 6 percent refrained from replying.

It was based on a survey of 1,004 voters conducted from Tuesday to Thursday. It has 3.1 percentage points in margin of error with a 95 percent confidence level.

Moon's ruling Democratic Party gained 48 percent of support, marking the highest-ever since the party was created. It was up 13 percentage points compared with the figure tallied before the presidential election on May 9.

It was followed by the main opposition Liberty Korea Party and the centrist People's Party, which garnered an identical 8 percent in approval rating.

The minor progressive Justice Party and the minor conservative Righteous Party also had an identical support rate of 7 percent.
