More than two dozen models including six girls attired in colorful dress attended a catwalk ceremony in Kabul on Thursday to display the costumes of ethnics living in Afghanistan.

This is the third time that fashion has been held in the conservative society over the past one decade where Taliban-led militancy has been continuing.

"The aim of holding this show is to display the different types of cloths and costumes worn by Afghan ethnics in different parts of the country," Ajmal Haqiqi, the organizer of the show, told Xinhua.

In patriarchal Afghanistan where women are still wearing Burqa, an envelope-like veil covering their head to toe, holding fashion show is a step to overcome cultural barriers in the society where many people deeply believe in tribal traditions, according to Haqiqi.

More than 200 spectators, with the majority of them youngsters, praised the models for their courage to demonstrate diversity of costumes in the multi-ethnic country.
