Saudi Arabia has impose an equivalent of 1.4-million-U.S.-dollar fines on Hajj violators, Saudi Press Agency reported Thursday.

Until Thursday, 90 administrative punishments have been issued against Hajj violators including those who carried out pilgrims without permits, according to the General Directorate of Passports, Saudi's immigration authority.

The penalties range from fines, prison sentences, deportation, defamation and confiscation of vehicles used to transport pilgrims, the immigration authority explained.

A total of 498 pilgrims without permits have been caught, it added.

Also on Thursday, the health ministry said in a statement that the Hajj season has been going on without epidemic and quarantine cases, pointing to early preventive and precautionary measures to preserve the health and safety of pilgrims.
