One of two injured in shooting incident died Sunday night in a hospital, which brought the toll to nine, Dallas News reported on Monday.

Eight people, including a suspect, were killed Sunday evening in a shooting incident at a home in northern Texas, the United States.

Police in Plano, a city in the northeastern part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area which lies about 410 km north of Houston, Texas, shot and killed the suspect on arrival at the home after receiving a weapons call, local TV KHOU reported.

Once inside the home, police found nine gunshot victims, seven of whom were killed at the scene and two others were transported to a local hospital, the report said.

One of those two later died, police Chief Gregory Rushin said on Monday. The remaining victim's condition was not available.

Meredith Hight, 27, who lives in the house, was among the killed. Court records show that she filed for divorce this summer from Spencer Hight.

Local media WFAA-TV (Channel 8) quoted mother of Meredith Hight as reporting that her daughter's estranged husband went on a deadly rampage before a police officer fatally shot him. She said her daughter had been hosting a football watch party before the slayings.

Rushin said the investigation is in its early stages, witnesses are still being interviewed and the department wants to make sure all the next of kin are notified before names are released in this mass shooting.

About 8:00 p.m. Sunday, a nearby officer who responded heard more gunshots from inside the home and saw shooting victims down in the backyard. He entered the house and fatally shot the gunman.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shooting. Rushin said his department will also do an investigation to ensure the officer acted appropriately.
