Ajax defeated Feyenoord 3-0 on Sunday in the 'Klassieker," the Dutch Classic. The two sides have the main and longest-running rivalry in the Netherlands.
The encounter not only was a match between Ajax and Feyenoord, but also between the number two and three of the Eredivisie. After only six minutes, Feyenoord could throw away their tactical plan when defender Jeremiah St. Juste received a red card for a tackle on Nicolas Tagliafico.
With eleven against ten Ajax was superior in the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam. The home team came in front in the 22nd minute. Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow turned a shot by Frenkie de Jong into his own goal.
A few minutes from half-time Hakim Ziyech doubled the scoring with a shot from the border of the penalty area. The second half had little highlights, with Ajax being the dominating side. Dusan Tadic made it 3-0 with a header on a cross by substitute David Neres ten minutes from time.
On Saturday, league leaders PSV booked their 10th consecutive win of the season at FC Groningen (1-2). Samir Memisevic put Groningen in front from the penalty spot and on the stroke of half-time Donyell Malen tipped in the equalizer from close range.
In the second half, PSV failed to impress and seemed on their way to drop their first points of the season. However, after a rush from the PSV half right back Denzel Dumfries produced the match winning goal in the 86th minute.
On Friday, VVV-Venlo drew 1-1 at FC Emmen. Saturday saw ADO and NAC and PEC Zwolle and Heracles all draw 1-1 and De Graafschap beat Excelsior 4-1. On Sunday, Vitesse defeated Fortuna Sittard 2-1, FC Utrecht won 1-0 at Willem II and sc Heerenveen surprised AZ 3-2 in Alkmaar.
Eredivisie leaders PSV remain on top with 30 points from 10 games, five ahead of Ajax and 10 ahead of Feyenoord and Heracles.
