Karachi,Oct. 22 (Gwadar Pro) - Because of poor infrastructure and remote distance from the economic center, Residents in Gwadar have limited means to make a living and thus live a tough life. Local fishermen do not have proper fishing tools and are struggling in a very difficult situation. The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Karachi has innovated the foreign aid mechanism by entrusting the Balochistan Business Forum Association to directly donate a batch of fishing nets, electrical machines, life-saving drugs and other living and production materials to local fishermen.
On October 15, 2019, the ceremony for the Consulate General of China in Karachi, Pakistan donating materials to local fishermen in Gwadar was held grandly at the Gwadar PC Hotel. Local Fishermen’s Association, representatives of fishermen, representatives of the Gwadar Harbor Authority, representatives of the Gwadar Development Authority and other related personnel attended this donation ceremony led by Sardar Shoukat, the President of the Balochistan Business Forum Association. At the donation ceremony, the representatives actively discussed many issues in detail, including how to deepen the friendly relationship between China-invested enterprises and the people of Gwadar.
This direct donation embodies the care and assistance of the Consulate General of China in Karachi for fishermen in Gwadar. The President of the Gwadar Fishermen’s Association has repeatedly expressed sincere gratitude to the Consulate General of China and noted that, “Our local fishermen have directly felt the care and love of the Chinese government and Chinese people for fishermen in Gwadar and got tangible benefits from the direct donation, for which we are very grateful! I believe that the completed East Bay Expressway will definitely promote the further development of Gwadar Port, and we also hope that we can benefit from the development of the Port to create a happy future for the next generation.”
Other fishermen representatives also made unanimous statements: This kind of direct assistance has achieved very good effect. It is hoped that more similar assistance will be offered especially in the field of fishermen medical treatment, education, employment, etc. Life is hard for fishermen in Gwadar, so they are all looking forward to the early completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and hope that the next generation can have decent jobs and good lives. The representatives expressed that it is understandable that the construction of the corridor project causes some interference and influence, and they would actively cooperate with the Chinese company to complete the project as soon as possible.
Commissioned by the Consulate General of China in Karachi, Zhang Baozhong, the Chairman of China Overseas Ports Holding Company Limited (COPHC), attended the ceremony and conveyed greetings of Chen Xiaodong, the Acting Consul-General of the Consulate General of China in Karachi, to fishermen friends. “In the coming days, the Consulate General of China in Karachi will continue helping Gwadar fishermen to improve their living standards in a variety of ways. Moreover, the Gwadar Vocational Training Center, China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital and new Gwadar International Airport aided by China are about to start construction, and the launch of these projects will provide local people with more job opportunities and raise their income level.”
“Meanwhile, COPHC will continue fulfilling its social responsibilities actively together with other Chinese companies and offer help to people of Gwadar especially in education, health care, and employment. At the same time, we sincerely hope that people of Gwadar take the long view to rationally treat the inconvenience in life caused by current project construction. It is also hoped that they will realize that this is the only way to social development. Of course, Chinese companies will endeavor to reduce interference with the normal life and production activities of residents.”
This direct donation to fishermen includes engines for fishing boats, fishing nets and life-saving supplies, which are the most needed materials for local fishermen in their production and life. The donation functions effectively so that local people have experienced personally the Chinese government’s care for local development and people’s life; additionally, this kind of donation combining with substantial capital and intensive asset aids can better improve local public opinions on us, and enable us to learn about people’s life in a more direct way, and promote a deeper friendship with local people, in other words, our conduct is “more down-to-earth”!
