All the China-Vietnam border ports in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have fully resumed operation thanks to the effective control of the novel coronavirus epidemic, the local department of commerce announced Friday.

Affected by the epidemic, some cross-border ports had been closed for a period of time, said Liang Yiguang, deputy director of the department of commerce of the region.

The first batch of red shrimp weighing 7.1 tonnes from Vietnam entered China through the Dongxing Port Tuesday. The total freight volume of the Dongxing Port reached 14,000 tonnes worth 620 million yuan (88.5 million U.S. dollars) by Feb. 26 since it resumed freight clearance service after the prolonged Spring Festival holiday, according to the customs of Nanning, capital of the region.

Guangxi, which borders Vietnam, serves as a gateway to the ASEAN. Conducive and effective measures have been conducted in Guangxi recently for the prevention and control of the epidemic in border areas, said Liang.

The local authorities of Guangxi had discussions with the northern provinces of Vietnam and adopted a streamlined process of customs clearance for cross-border trade.

The resumption of Guangxi's border trade with Vietnam would effectively guarantee the supply of raw materials for bilateral enterprises, increase the import of Vietnamese agricultural products, promote economic development and meet the growing domestic consumption demand, said Liang.
