Malawi sports minister Jaffalie Mussa said the long-awaited bills of quantities for the rehabilitation of the country's biggest stadium - the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre are now out and the exercise will start very shortly.
The minister said that the government will now be contracting out some of the works to ensure that the stadium is user friendly and meets the required international standards, Nation Online of Malawi reported Tuesday.
"I am happy to announce here that the much-talked about bills of quantities for the rehabilitation of the stadium are now out and the rehabilitation will start in due course," said Mussa.
To that effect, the minister said the 30 million kwacha (about 214,000 U.S. dollars) which the government allocated towards the project in the last financial year is still available and it will be used in this financial year together with the other 30 million kwacha which was allocated towards the project in the current budget.
Mussa said the 60 million kwacha allocation is also part of the campaign to induce teams to camp in the country in the countdown to 2010 World Cup to be hosted by South Africa. |
