Murer breaks own South American record in pole vault
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2009-06-08 10:21
In the finals of the Brazilian Trophy of Athletics, Fabiana Murer broke her own South American record on Sunday in the pole vault.

Making her best mark of the year, Murer cleared 4.82 meters to win the event and improve the record she established in 2008 as the best in the continent.

Her result also marks the best height this year by any other women athlete, and Murer is considered to be the favorite to win this year's World Championships in Berlin, Germany.

Murer looks to Berlin's world stage as a place to seek redemption after her disappointing performance in the Beijing Olympic Games of 2008.

After having lost her bar by the Game's organization just before the finals of the pole vault, Murer claimed injustice as she was forced to use another bar that was not hers, finishing 35 centimeters below her best jump. Consequently, she did not place in the 2008 Olympics.
