Lu Bin sprints to men's 100m victory

Lu Bin of Jiangsu province upset heavy favorite Zhang Peimeng to win the men's 100 meters while the women's final gripped the hearts in a photo finish at the 11th Chinese National Games on Thursday.

Lu, the champion of the 2007 National Grand Prix, was fast out of the blocks and hit the front with about 20 meters left before finding an extra burst of speed to win in 10.25 seconds.

Beijing's Zhang Peimeng, winner of the heats on Wednesday and also the gold medalist of 2007 National Championships, followed the winner in 10.31.

Fujian's Guo Fan claimed bronze in 10.41. The national record is 10.17 set by Zhou Wei in 1998.

Hu Kai, Universiade gold medalist in 2005, raced with his iconic glasses and only finished last in 10.59.

On women's side, Fujian's Wangjing crossed the line neck and neck with Jiangsu's Jiang Lan in nail-biter race.

 

Judges awarded Wang the gold with the decision of photo finish as both runners finished in 11.50. Chen Jue of Jiangsu took the bronze in 11.51.
