Olympic note launched in St. Petersburg
As Russia gears up to host the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, St. Petersburg's Peter and Paul Fortress Wednesday played host to the launching of the new Olympic- themed 100-ruble (US$3) note.
At the official launching ceremony, the Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia, Georgy Luntovsky, said that the new 100-ruble note was being issued exactly 100 days before the start of the Sochi Games. Twenty million such "Sochi" notes have been printed.
"'You can go shopping with them of course, but I don't think people will. I think they will make wonderful souvenirs," Luntovsky said.
