Early on Tuesday, China defeated Russia 5-4 in another session, but after the loss to Switzerland, China now ranked seventh among 12 teams. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs.
"I told these guys to keep fighting until we are mathematically eliminated because you never know what' s going to happen," said Marcel Rocque, head coach of China, "I reminded our team of the last world championships when there was a six-way tie for third and sixth. We ended up winning that world championship but there were some crucial things that happened during that tournament that allowed us to get passed that six-way tie. Sometimes you need that luck to happen."
Norway suffered their first loss at the tournament as they were beaten by Germany at the morning session by a score of 7-6, but they still moved to the first place in the standings with a 6-1 record by beating Canada 9-5. Canada placed second with a 5-2 win-loss record.
