Hannover's winless run of seven matches came to an end due to a 2-0 win over struggling Frankfurt whilst Monchengladbach edged Freiburg 1-0 to close the 14th round of the German Bundesliga on Sunday.

Hannover's Mame Briam Diouf and Szabolcs Huszti secured their side three points to break the spell of seven winless matches. Meanwhile, Frankfurt's Martin Lanig weakened his side with his second bookable offence in the second half to increase the crisis to nine winless matches in row.

Hannover controlled the proceedings for most of the time on home soil, with a possession of 83 per cent, whereas Frankfurt rarely threatened the host's defence.

However, Leon Andreasen and Marcelo approached Frankfurt's goal dangerously before Diouf finally marked the opener with 24 minutes into the game. The Senegalese international met Edgar Prib's cross into the box to head the lead from five meters.

The hosts utilized their momentum to double the lead but Arthur Sobiech's goal was disallowed due to an offside position.

Frankfurt showed a vital sign before the break as Prib denied the visitors equalizer when he blocked an effort by Vaclav Kadlec on the line.

After the restart the "Eagles" had to finish the encounter with ten-men as Martin Lanig saw his second yellow card of the day at the 57th minute. The "Reds" made use of their advantage as Huszti killed the game with a free kick goal to make it 2-0 on the scoreboards at the 68th minute.

"We adopted the right strategy today. No one expected that we would climb back into the mid table," Hannover coach Mirko Slomka said. Hannover climb from 13th to 9th place with 17 points while Frankfurt stick on 15th position with 11 points.

Elsewhere, clinical Monchengladbach wrapped up their fifth consecutive victory, as Raffael's winner at the 63rd minute was enough to book a win over courageous Freiburg.

Monchengladbach tighten their fourth place in the table whilst Freiburg are stuck on 16th position, a relegation play off spot.

"Freiburg is well organized, they have a good defence. We can be satisfied with the 1-0 win," Monchengladbach coach Lucien Favre said.
