Sunday saw the premiere of the long awaited Chinese black comedy "No Man's Land".
Helmed by esteemed director Ning Hao, the film stars Xu Zheng, Huang Bo and Yu Nan.The story traces a lawyer's journey to the remote corners of Xinjiang to fight a case involving rare birds. He then finds himself amidst an assortment of strange and intriguin company on his arduous way back through the Gobi desert.
Speaking to CRI, Ning Hao says that he wanted to explore the themes of human nature in the context of urbanization.
"Though the film is called 'No Man's Land,' it is essentially about the difficulties faced by people when encountering rapid urbanization. People become consumed by desire and become selfish. Actually the animal instinct lies in everybody but it is wrapped. How can we see the animal instinct through? We can put it in a no man's land. Forced to take off the urban clothes, you would realize the deep side of your heart and realize what leads you to an animal."
First completed in 2010, the film has waited three years to get the authority's nod to release.
It's poised to finally to hit screens on December the 3rd.
