Alejandro Blanco, the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee, believed that the Spanish team will put in a strong performance at the London Olympic Games.

Sporting morale in Spain is currently sky high thanks to the historic triumph of the Spanish football team at the European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine.

Spain will take a powerful football team to London, while the basketball team is looking forward to the silver medal at lease, which they won in Beijing four years ago.

"We are going to London with seven strong teams, and we also have a lot of individual medal hopes," Blanco said, although he was reluctant to name specific favorites to win medals.

Blanco said the Olympics are the toughest competition in the world and geeting into finals is a massive achievement to the athletes, putting down the importance of medal tally.

"There are two kinds of competitors at Olympics: those who have no chance of winning a medal and those who have. Sometimes those who can win a medal don't win either. But it is quite incredible even you are only among the best eight in the world."

Blanco is also the President of Bidding Committee of 2020 Games for Madrid.

"The most important thing is to join in. It means sharing a spirit that you only get every four years. It is something that motivates you to go on. That goes for all of the competitors, including those who earn a lot of money and are famous in the world," he said.

"There is something that you can only understand when you are there at the Olympics," he said. "You may travel as the president of any federation and think your team is the football, judo, basketball team or whatever. But when you are at the Games, you discover your team is Spain and you are there with 282 athletes, 150 coaches, they are all your team."

"Only those who have been there can understand that feeling."
