Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has outlawed official delegation to this year's London Olympics.
Minister of Sports Bolaji Abdullahi disclosed this on Wednesday at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Abdullahi assured that there will be no room for jamboree which have been the usual practice in the past, where government officials with little or nothing to do at sporting events, are dispatched to attend thereby constituting nuisance in most cases and also ending up distracting the athletes.
The unprecedented move by President Jonathan, according to the minister, was aimed at cutting cost and getting the athletes focused.
Abdullahi also briefed the FEC on the performance of Nigeria at the African Athletics Championships where the country recorded impressive results and set three new African records. |
