Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-05 09:13

Nicaraguan boxer Osmar Bravo traveled to England Wednesday for some pre-Olympic training in the host country, according to a statement from the Nicaraguan Olympic Committee (NOC).

In a deal arranged by the International Boxing Association (IBA), Bravo is set to train for 20 days in Cardiff, Wales, to improve his chances at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Bravo's trainer, Javier Medina, is traveling with him and both got a warm sendoff from members of the Nicaraguan Boxing Federation, a local boxing source said.

Bravo qualified to fight in the amateur world's biggest sporting event after beating boxers from Uruguay and Jamaica at a pre-Olympic tournament in Rio de Janeiro.

Nicaragua is sending London a six-member delegation composed of three men and three women in four sports, including swimming, weightlifting and boxing, said the NOC, adding the July-August Games will mark the 11th time Nicaragua competes in a summer Olympics.

Nicaragua participated in Mexico 1968, Munich 1972, Montreal 1979, Moscow 1980, Los Angeles 1984, Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.

The NOC said the rest of the Nicaraguan delegation will head to London on July 23.
