Beijing, Jun. 15 (China Economic Net) - With the theme of "food safety, international governance," 2015 International Conference on Food Safety kicked off in Beijing on Monday, attracting over 200 governmental delegates, business leaders and scholars from more than 20 countries and regions, who will share their views about the food safety supervision.

Food Safety is quite important for the consumers who can only enjoy high quality food when the safety is guaranteed by professionals in the sector and by governmental organizations, said Aart Jacobi, Dutch ambassador to China.

The European Union harmonized food safety standards and created one internal market in Europe, said Jacobi, adding that the government creates a framework for food safety through a system of rules, inspections and controls, but the food company remains primarily responsible for the safety of its products.

A good animal health policy requires effective tracking and tracing systems. For the prevention of animal diseases the entire food chain from farm to fork is important. One Health Approach is fundamental to the Dutch Approach as our antimicrobial reduction plan.

The Netherlands is very much engaged to promote the One Health Approach in the EU, with compulsory reduction targets in the use of antibiotics for the entire EU, he said.

International cooperation, exchange of knowledge and experiences has resulted in enormous steps forward towards offering healthy food for people all over the world. With this in mind the Netherlands would like to conclude by congratulating China on its revised Food Safety Law which has the power to restore consumer's confidence in Chinese food industry and farming products.

With the booming of Chinese economy and the deepening of globalization of the food industry, China is becoming the world's largest producer and the largest consumer of food. And it needs more food resources from around the world and contributes more of Chinese food to the rest of the world as well. As a big country of food production and consumption, China is playing an increasingly important role in the field of global food safety.

Organized by the UNIDO, WHO and the Netherlands Embassy to China and hosted by China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA), 2015 International Conference on Food Safety was held on June 15. Senior officials, professionals and entrepreneurs from economic and industrial front attended the conference under the theme "food safety, international governance." It is undertaken by China Center for Food and Drug International Exchange and China Economy Net.
