A landlocked country in eastern Africa, the Republic of Uganda covers an area of 240,000 square km and has a population of 27.21 million belonging to four ethnic groups: Bantu, Nilotic, Nilo-Hamitic and Sudanic. Most of local residents are Roman Catholics, Protestants and Muslims. English and Swahili are the official languages. The national capital is Kampala. The current president is Yoweri Museveni.
Since China and Uganda established diplomatic relations on Oct. 18, 1962, bilateral relations have been growing smoothly. Chinese President Hu Jintao (then vice president) and Premier Wen Jiabao visited Uganda in 2001 and 2006, respectively. Ugandan President Museveni visited China in 2004. Uganda is a destination country for Chinese tourists. . Bilateral trade came to 99.37 million U.S. dollars in 2005. |
