Bush laughs to the last minute
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2004-11-05 15:41
US President George W. Bush declared victory on Wednesday in his campaign for re-election.

Addressing supporters at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, Bush said it had been a hard-fought win.

He told cheering supporters he had had a good conversation with his Democratic presidential opponent John Kerry and talked about the danger of division in the US and the deep need for unity and common ground.

An hour earlier, John Kerry conceded defeat in a speech from Boston.

Kerry's announcement concluded America's second tight election in a row.

There were also electoral gains for Republicans in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
