Chinese economist Yu Guangyuan passes away at 98

Famous Chinese economist Yu Guangyuan passed away early in the morning at the age of 98.

Yu, born in 1915, was a member of the Communist Party of China ever since 1937. He had made significant contributions in the fields of Marxist theory and in state planning. He was head of the Political Research Office of the State Council from 1975 and the first director of the Economic Research Institute of the State Planning Commission. He had held many other important posts, and was editor-in-chief of the "Dictionary of Economics".

He was dubbed as the pioneer economist in the decades of China implementing reform and open-up policy, and had put forward many major theoretical proposals in this respect.
