Britain's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, eased to 4.2 percent in December, 2011 from 4.8 percent in the previous month, the country's Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Tuesday.
It was the lowest rate since June 2011, and marked the biggest monthly fall since April 2009.
ONS attributed the drop of the CPI to lower fuel prices and cheaper clothing.
The retail price index (RPI) - which includes housing costs - also fell to 4.8 percent in December from 5.2 percent in the previous month. |
