The number of employed person in Germany reached a record level in the past 12 months, while the unemployment rate reduced, official data showed on Wednesday.

In 2012, the number of employed person living in Germany amounted to about 41.5 million, said Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). That was an increase of 416,000 or 1.0 percent compared with the previous year, and a rise for the six consecutive year.

According to the Wiesbaden-based office, the number of unemployed people in 2012 decreased by 6.5 percent to 2.34 million on a year earlier. The unemployment rate was down to 5.3 percent. That was the lowest since 2004, when 4.16 million couldn't find jobs, data from the Destatis showed.

Despite these positive data, Destatis said that employment rose less strongly in 2012 compared with 2011, because "economic development lost some of its dynamic" in the sencond half of 2012.
