French consumer confidence for their economic and financial situation remained unchanged at 86 points in January compared to a month earlier, government figures showed on Tuesday.
Households' sentiment about their personal finances was at minus 24, one point down from December 2012, while expectations for the French economy fell two points to minus 55, according to the French statistics institute Insee.
In January, fewer households made savings whose indicator lost two points after it rose by 14 points in the July-December period.
French consumers expressed more optimism about unemployment with fewer households forecasting an increase in unemployment. Last month, unemployment in France remained largely unchanged after climbing for 19 successive months.
France, Europe's second largest economy, is currently struggling to narrow its widening budget deficit and boost economic growth. It has targeted 0.8 percent growth this year, and pledged to cut down its deficit to 3 percent of GDP.
