Nikkei opened lower Thursday on concern that the Japanese yen will stay strong against the U.S. dollar following a longer period for accommodative monetary policy indicated by the U.S. Federal Reserve.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 7.64 points, or 0.09 percent, from Wednesday to 8,876.05.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.76 point, or 0.10 percent, to 766.64. |
