| Japan's consumer price index falls 7.9% on year |

Wholesale prices in Japan posted a 7.9 percent drop in September when compared with a year earlier, according to figures released by the Bank of Japan on Wednesday.
Compared with August, prices have risen by 0.1 percent, and over the last three months have posted a 0.5 percent rise.
The BOJ corporate goods price index, the gauge of the wholesale prices, returned to 102.3 versus 100 for the base year of 2005, after dropping by 0.1 percent last month.
In terms of the Japanese yen, import prices plunged 31.2 percent year-on-year while export prices dropped 13.6 percent.
In terms of contract currencies, import prices dropped by 22.5 percent while export prices fell 4.2 percent.
The figures show that the Japanese economy may be starting to stabilize -- in August import prices dropped by a record 26.9 percent in terms of contract currencies. |
