The 50th International Paris Air Show is held at Le Bourget airport in the northeast suburb of Paris from June 17 to 23, 2013.

The Paris Air Show, known as Paris-Le Bourget International Air and Space Exhibition, is one of the biggest and most reputed air shows in the world. Its first show opened on September 25, 1909, and since 1924, it was held every odd year in the summer. Interrupted during the WWI and WWII, it reopened after the wars ended.

The following is a chronology of the major events in Paris Air Show:

1909: Organized by aerospace pioneers Andre Granet and Robert Esnault-Pelterie, the first Paris Air Show was held in the Grand Palais (Great Palace) in downtown Paris. The innovations showcased by 380 exhibitors were mainly hot-air balloons and small aircraft.

1924: The aviation show was marked by the presence of foreign manufacturers, mostly from Britain and Germany. From that date onward, the Show would be held biennially.

1953: The show moved to Le Bourget airport permanently, and the Exhibition Hall hence became a key exhibition venue in Ile de France, an administrative region where Paris is locate.

1969: The world's first supersonic commercial aircraft Concorde made its debut.

1973: The Airbus A300B, the first aircraft made jointly by France and Germany, was presented for the first time.

1979: The Ariane rocket made its first public appearance.

2005: The Airbus A380 was debuted.

2009: More than 2,000 trade visitors from 48 countries and 360,000 public visitors attended the centenary of the show.

2011: The show attracted 151,000 trade visitors from 45 countries and 204,000 general public visitor. Up to 1,400 aircraft were sold at the show.
