Japanese automaker Subaru is recalling 25,641 cars in China starting on Jan. 11, 2019, due to defective engine parts that can cause the affected vehicles to stall.

The recall affects its imported Forester, XV and BRZ models manufactured between 2012 and 2013, the State Administration for Market Regulation said in a statement.

The engine valve springs in the vehicles may bear a higher load than designed, and tiny impurities in the springs may lead to fractures, causing engines to malfunction or stall.

Subaru will replace the problematic valve springs free of charge.
