The border city of Hunchun, northeast China's Jilin Province, saw its trade with Russia rise by over 90 percent year on year in 2018, local commerce authorities said Wednesday.

The trade volume between Hunchun and Russia was 4.61 billion yuan (688 million U. S. dollars) last year, up by 90.1 percent from 2017. The import volume was 4.46 billion yuan, up 101.32 percent annually.

Coal and seafood are two major commodities involved in the trade. Hunchun imported 1.33 billion yuan worth of coal from Russia, a growth of 46.7 percent from that of 2017.

Seafood trade between Hunchun and Russia reached 1.87 billion yuan, up by 182.3 percent year on year. Hunchun imported 1.4 billion yuan worth of fresh crabs from Russia, compared with 300 million yuan in 2017.

Situated on the China-Russia border, Hunchun has been stepping up efforts to cooperate with Russia. The Kamchatka-Zarubino-Hunchun flight was opened in 2017, enabling daily transportation of seafood from Russia.
