Fifteen types of imported food and drink products were classed as below standard by China's inspection and quarantine institutions in January, the quality supervision authorities said Thursday.

Li Yuanping, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) spokesman, said that a total of 240 batches of products, mainly liquor, grain products and meat, from 36 countries and regions failed labeling or additives inspections.

Another seven batches of imported cosmetics, shampoo and perfume from five countries failed inspections due to illegal certification or contamination.

All the unqualified products were returned or destroyed before entering the domestic market, Li said.
