Pakistani student assists China's poverty alleviation through education

XIANYANG, Nov. 4 (China Economic Net) – "Hi! Everyone! How are you?" "I'm fine ..." clear sound of reading came out of classrooms at Nangou primary school, Heyang County, Shaanxi province, China.
Students looked at their new foreign English teacher excitedly. Their new teacher is a Pakistani Mansoor Ahmed Koondhar, who is a Ph.D. student of College of Economics and Management, Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU), China.
Mr Koondhar just came to teach oral English here a week ago, aiming to inspire their interest in English and help strengthen education in rural areas, part of poverty alleviation via education.
He teaches oral English. To entice students to speak English, Koondhar tries various ways, including playing games and giving small gifts to encourage students for speak it out.
Sometimes, he also shares Pakistani culture and stories of Pak-China relationship. Sometime, he introduces situations about the Belt and Road Initiative to broaden the students’ horizons.
“I like Mr Koondhar’s teaching very much,” said one of Koondhar’s students.
Soon, these students were no longer shy at class and they began making simple communications with Koondhar.
Koondhar has gotten on well with these students. Now students will gather around him to talk in English happily.
Koondhar said that “I am very happy to teach students English. This will also help me understand the Chinese culture.”
He added that, “In addition, I am also learning from China’s poverty alleviation policies and plans. When I fly back to Pakistan, I will try my best to help implement these policies and plans.”

Besides this voluntary teaching, Koondhar also once helped farmers with his professional knowledge in agriculture in Heyang County in 2020.
Koondhar said that Pakistan and China would enhance cooperation in education, joint research and eco-technology laboratory.
