China welcomes Pakistani onions
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong signed a protocol for inspection requirements on imported onions from Pakistan with the Ministry of National Food Security and Research in Pakistan on Tuesday. The agreement is the first deal since the two countries embarked on the second development phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), marking Pakistani onions have gained market access to China.
It is learned that Pakistan is the sixth largest producer of onions in the world, with an annual onion export of $243 million. China has a very broad and mature consumer market. It is hoped that after the signing of the protocol, Pakistan can export different kinds of high-quality onions to China.
