Sven Kramer, the three-time defending champion in the men's 5000m speed skating event, will not be on the podium this year. And, in an additional twist, his teammate Patrick Roest has just taken his Olympic Record off him. Roest clocks 6 minutes 9.31 seconds, taking just over four-tenths off Kramer's mark from 2018.

Alexander Bolshunov picks up a ROC flag from a coach and waves it as he crosses the line in 1 hour 16 minutes 9.8 seconds to win men's skiathlon gold.

The hosts have something to celebrate in snowboard too, as 17-year-old Su Yiming lays down an 86.80 first run to top the scoreboard in the men's slopestyle qualifiers.

There will be a total of 109 medal events across the following 15 sports: Alpine Skiing Biathlon Bobsled Cross-Country Skiing Curling Figure Skating Freestyle Skiing Hockey Luge Nordic Combined Short Track Skeleton Ski Jumping Snowboarding Speed Skating Additionally, the 2022 Winter Olympics will feature seven new events: Women’s Monobob, Men’s and Women’s Big Air (Freestyle Skiing), Mixed Team Snowboard Cross, Mixed Team Aerials, Mixed Team Short Track Relay, and Mixed Team Ski Jumping.

All the ice and snow-related, for example snowboard big air and freestyle skiing big air, men’s and women’s games including opening and closing ceremonies take place in Beijing. Yanqing which is 75km away located from Beijing is also known as the suburb of China’s capital. It is a mountainous area in the northwest of Beijing’s city centre. Yanqing will be hosting Alpine skiing and sliding events bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge. It will also be the home of the Olympic Athletes’ village. In the northwest and almost 118km away from Beijing is the third spot for the Winter Games arena. This place is hosting ski and snowboarding events including freestyle, cross-country, ski jumping, Nordic combined, and biathlon.
