BEJING, March 18 (China Economic Net) - “During his upcoming state visit to Russia, President Xi Jinping will have an in-depth exchange of views with President Putin on bilateral relations and major international and regional issues of mutual interest, boost strategic coordination and practical cooperation between the two countries and inject new impetus into the growth of bilateral relations,” said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin in a daily press briefing on Friday. 

 

The spokesman noted, “China and Russia are permanent members of the UN Security Council and major countries, and the significance and influence of the China-Russia relationship goes far beyond the bilateral scope.”

 

President Xi's visit to Russia is expected to deepen mutual trust and understanding between the two nations and further strengthen the friendship between the two peoples, Wang revealed.

 

The visit will also focus on cooperation between China and Russia. “It will boost mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation across the board, form greater synergy and deepen cooperation between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, and help both countries achieve our respective goals of development and rejuvenation,” said the spokesperson.

 

Furthermore, President Xi's visit aims to promote global peace, as both China and Russia plan to continue practicing true multilateralism, promote greater democracy in international relations, work towards building a multi-polar world, improve global governance, and contribute to development and progress worldwide. “China will uphold an objective and fair position on the Ukraine crisis and play a constructive role in promoting talks for peace,” noted Wang.

 

On March 17, the Chinese foreign ministry announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Russia from March 20 to 22 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
